What is IPL?
Intense Pulsed Light employs photorejuvenation and is the latest tool in skin care technology. The IPL technique is non-invasive and combats the effects of sun damage and other skin problems.
IPL treatments are proven safe and carry no recovery time. At Doctor’s Approach, our medical team led by Dr. Marcy Street takes the time to meet with patients individually, discuss their aesthetic goals and review their medical histories. This allows us to help select the most effective treatment for your condition.
IPL treatments employ light wavelengths that go after melanin that lead to age or sun spots. The IPL technique also targets hemoglobin in vascular lesions – better known as broken capillaries or spider veins.
Most of our patients see improvements to their skin after only one or two IPL sessions. Other patients may need additional treatments to achieve desired results. How many treatments are required depends on the individual patient and the part of the body being treated.
IPL has minimal recovery time. Most patients can apply makeup right away and they return to work and other normal activities immediately. Skin may be slightly red for several hours after IPL treatment, but this side effect typically is unnoticeable to others.
The skin may feel warm during IPL treatment, but our patients report little to no discomfort.
For some patients, freckles and spots may appear to darken somewhat after treatment. This is normal and indicates melanin cells were properly treated.
Treated areas that darken typically fade after a few days and continue to improve over the following weeks.
If your skin is extra-sensitive, our medical team at Doctor’s Approach can offer numbing creams that should make treatments virtually pain-free.
It’s important to remember to apply sunscreen after IPL treatments to better protect yourself from future skin damage.
If spider veins, age spots or other skin issues are making you feel less attractive or self-conscious about your appearance, there are steps you can take to look and feel better.
As we age, our skin does too. The aging process often brings with it unwanted spider veins and other unattractive skin conditions we would rather live without.
