Treating Acne with Chemical Peels

If you have been battling acne, you are likely looking for a treatment that is going to offer you the best results. You do not want to waste your money and your time on over-the-counter acne treatments that only deliver results that slightly improve your skin. You want to effectively treat your acne and avoid acne scars. One treatment that has proven to be extremely effective in treating acne is chemical peels.

When you visit our office for a peel, we will apply a special solution to your skin. Usually, you can have this treatment done about twice a month. However, it depends on the type of peel used. The solution is used to exfoliate the top layers of your skin. Even though this sounds like a weird idea, you do not need to worry about your skin completely dissolving. We will only use a solution with a certain percentage of strength in order to help you get the results you want to see.

Chemical peels tend to work for two main reasons when treating acne. First, acne is caused from bacteria in the skin. When the chemical peel is applied and exfoliates the top layers of your skin, most of the bacteria are killed. The second reason why chemical peels tend to work for treating acne is because they encourage your skin to heal itself. As the top layers are exfoliated, there should be quicker skin turnover. This means that your pores will not become clogged as quickly.

The great thing about chemical peels is that a person can expect good results. Studies have consistently shown that a person can see a reduction of up to 50 percent of their acne when they use certain peels on a regular basis. Most individuals who use them are pleased with the results. Also, the person can expect long-lasting results. After a person receives one treatment, they may have results that last for up to two months.

When you come in for a consultation at Doctor’s Approach, we can examine your skin and determine if chemical peels are right for treating your acne. Chemical peels have proven time and again that they can help to treat most types of acne. In order for you to learn more about this treatment, schedule a consultation at our office in Okemos, Carson City or St. Johns. Our team can work hand in hand with you to treat your acne.
