With age, many people begin to notice fewer or less full eyelashes. Women especially take pride in a set of dense, long lashes. Thus, the loss of them can be problematic. Fortunately, there is Latisse®, the only treatment approved by the FDA that has been clinically proven to be able to grow eyelashes. Latisse® is also only available by prescription. *
About Latisse®
Hypotrichosis is the scientific name for having not enough or insignificant eyelashes, and it can be treated. Because it is a prescription, you’ll need to visit a qualified doctor to have your case evaluated and to determine if you can benefit from Latisse®. *
The use of Latisse® is convenient and easy. You simply apply this topical treatment to the base of your eyelashes each night before you go to bed. The doctor will give you proper application instructions. *
With consistent use, you may see longer lashes in about a month, though you should be prepared to wait around 16 weeks to see the full effects. *
How It Works
Latisse® was first developed as an eye drop that was formulated to treat high intraocular pressure. It was when numerous patients reported increasing thickness and length of their eyelashes that scientists began to consider the use of the product for eyelash growth. In December of 2008, Latisse® received approval from the FDA for the purpose of increasing lash growth.
What to Expect
It’s important that you use Latisse® as directed. With nightly use, you should see new, longer and darker lashes appear over a 16-week period. *
While it doesn’t happen overnight, you will experience an improvement in the appearance of your eyelashes as long as you do not discontinue the use of Latisse®. *
Should you decide to stop applying the product for any reason during the recommended time frame, your lashes may gradually return to their previous condition. *
With that said, the first thing you will notice when applying Latisse® regularly is an increase in the length of your current lashes. Fuller, thicker lashes will begin to develop gradually over time with a darker color, as well. The full effect of results won’t occur until later. *
While some patients may experience slight itching or redness, side effect are rare. Darkening or other skin changes may occur, but these usually reverse after discontinuation of Latisse®. The vast majority of patients experience nothing but fuller, longer eyelashes with Latisse®.
