At Doctor’s Approach Med Spa we get asked all the time, what is the difference between a Med Spa and a Day Spa? At first glance a Med Spa and a Day Spa may appear to be very similar, even having similar lists of services that they may perform but a Med Spa or Medical Spa is a hybrid mix between a standard day spa and a medical skin care clinic. Med Spas are always over seen by highly trained medical doctors such as a Dermatologist or Plastic surgeon and offer more targeted medical grade treatments.
Focuses on more relaxing treatments, common services at day spas include massages, pedicures, manicures, aromatherapy, facials, and wraps. Day Spas are not under the supervision of a medical director, and treatments are not typically performed by medically trained professionals. Some of the technicians in Day Spas are certified in the area of their expertise, such as a licensed massage therapist, or they may be trained as a spa tech or aesthetician.
Is a hybrid between a day spa and a medical skin care clinic. Some are located within a medical facility such as Doctor’s Approach Med Spa. They are more results driving and typically focuses on providing medical-grade treatments to correct a variety of skin conditions including lines and wrinkles, pigmentation issues, acne, redness, volume loss, and broken capillaries. An important different between medical spas and day spas is that Med Spas require a medical director to provide oversight since treatments offered are powerful.
At one time, Med Spas tended to have a more clinical atmosphere than a Day Spa. Today, Med Spas are combining more of the relaxed and light atmosphere of a Day Spa into their practice with adding more services such as facials, body treatments, and massage targeting health and wellness.
